James Island This is the island where the slave's were kept while waiting for a boat to take them away to distant countries. The island is slowly being washed away but still has the outline buildings and cannons on show. You can get to the island on a small boat and this is included with a ticket for the museum. A Tour Guide will tell you all the history and facts about this island. The island is a mile from the main land. It is unlikely any slave could swim back to the shore as they were kept in very poor conditions and not fed properly. Combined with the museum and information available you will find this an interesting yet disturbing experience. |
